chance: the absence of any cause of events that can be predicted, understood, or controlled: often personified or treated as a positive agency: Chance governs all.

miracle: an effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause.

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your perspective), in this day and age, "chance" has less and less significance in the world of (in)fertility. Medical diagnostic procedures from ovulation kits to HSG tests to karyotyping spit in "chance's" face, and have a way of killing hope, if you let them. By the same token, the "power of information" from the medical "hoops" we tend to jump through to fight infertility will either put "miracles" out of sight and out of mind, or make them even more miraculous.

This is the mental "toss-up" that sets the tone for the journey I've been on for the last 15 months or so...
